Racing Experience:

First race was in a Ford Escort Mexico at Snetterton, England in 1978. Has competed sporadically in a variety of cars since then, but never on a regular basis. Cars driven (not necessarily raced) include: March-Porsche 89G Champ Car, Lola and Reynard Champ Cars, 1969 Mallock U2 Mk9DD (vintage Formula Ford), Jeep Comanche (SCCA Racetruck Challenge), Mallock U2 Mk20B (Clubmans), Group A BMW 635 CSi, a variety of showroom stock cars, Mazda 323 GTX rally car, Chevrolet Spectrum Turbo (ice racing).

Racing Achievement:

Achievement: Driving Teo Fabi’s March-Porsche at the Nurburgring; overtaking David Hobbs in an identical Group A BMW during the 1983 Tourist Trophy on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit ("he won’t remember, but I do"); clinching the Manufacturer’s Championship for Jeep (driving for the Archer brothers’ team) and setting fastest lap in the final round of the 1987 SCCA Racetruck Challenge at St. Petersburg, Florida; and founding an coordinating the Team USA Scholarship (www.teamusascholarship.org), which since 1990 has been assisting young American drivers in the formative stages of their careers. Past winners include Jimmy Vasser (1990), Bryan Herta (1991), Jerry Nadeau (‘93/’96), Memo Gidley (1995), Buddy Rice (1997), A.J. Allmendinger (2001), J.R, Hildebrand (2005) and Dane Cameron (2006). All experienced their first taste of international racing as a result of winning the scholarship.Favorite Race Track & Why: To visit: Surfers Paradise, Australia, and Mexico City “because of the atmosphere.” To drive: The old Zandvoort track in Holland “because it had a fantastic mix of corners.”
